Thank
you for your interest in my watercolor portraits.
In Your Dreams evolved from my love of illustrating
children’s books plus a desire to work
directly with individuals who want more than
a portrait of their or their loved ones’
physical likeness.
I believe that a portrait must show the unique
expression and personality of the individual.
Beyond this, the environment and clothing,
the time period needn’t be limited by
the confines of time and space or physics,
Old dogs can fly, children can ride tigers
through forests of flowers, there are no limits
to your vision.
With my brush and watercolors, I will bring
out the very essence that makes you or your
loved one different from all other beings
on earth.
How to Commission
a Portrait
Painting
From Photographs
I
paint in my studio on an island in the Pacific
Northwest. I work from photographs that you
provide or that I take myself if you live
in the area and we can meet. Please choose
photos that are clear and close up.
If, for example, you choose to show a child
riding a tiger, a photo of the child riding
a pony or straddling a fence would be most
helpful. Several photos can be combined to
provide the likeness of the person or animal
to be painted.
Describe
Your Dream
This
is probably the most important part of the
process. For me to paint your portrait in
your dreamscape, I need for you to describe
your dream to me. Take some time and let your
mind wander, write down these flights of fancy
and send them to me along with your photos.
Are you flying or perched in a tree or riding
a motorcycle with the wind in your hair? How
are you dressed? Where are you? Is it day
or night? Are you alone? If not, who is with
you? The more you can tell me, the closer
I can come to painting what you would like
to see, to be. There are no rules…..allow
your imagination to fly, have FUN!
To
Place An Order
When
I take photographs, a 50% deposit is required.
If you send your own photographs , I will
determine whether they will yield a good result
or I need additional images, and I will then
request a 50% deposit to start your painting.
Prices for a single person or animal start
at
$1250 8 X 10
$2500 16 X 20
Sizes are approximate. Prices increase with
additional people/animals and complexity of
background etc.
Times required for a completed painting vary
widely. Please allow considerable time for
deadlines such as Christmas or birthdays.
When your painting is nearly completed, a
bill for the balance will be sent. After payment
is received, the painting will be shipped
via UPS unless another method is requested.
Shipping is included.
Watercolor prices do not include matting or
framing. If you would like your painting matted
and/or framed, we can discuss color choices,
sizes and charges at any time during the painting
process. Most framed paintings are not shipped
with glass since broken glass in transit could
severely damage the painting itself.
The
Medium of Transparent Watercolor
Transparent
watercolor is a vibrant, clean, beautiful
and magical medium in which the pure, white
of the watercolor paper is actually visible
through all but the final layers of paint.
There is no white paint used. The multiple
layering of fine transparent glazes of pigment
is a slow and painstaking process but the
result of the artist’s patience is an
exceptional depth and clarity of color and
detail that beautifully shows the textures
of fur and hair and foliage, clothing and
the glow of skin.
I am committed to giving you the finest portrait
and the most personal service possible.
